About PortugalGolfe.pt
PortugalGolfe.pt is an independent, editorially driven guide to golf in Portugal. We cover every major golf course, region, equipment category and visitor practicality — written for both Portuguese resident golfers and visiting UK, Irish and international players planning a golf trip to Portugal.
This page explains who we are, how we work, and what readers can expect from our content.
Our Editorial Mission
We have one editorial principle: publish only what we’d recommend to a friend.
This means:
- We don’t republish resort marketing copy
- We don’t accept paid placements in course rankings
- We disclose every affiliate relationship clearly (see our affiliate disclosure)
- We make the same recommendations to readers that we’d make to our own family
The site is reader-supported through affiliate links (Amazon Associates, ThirstyAffiliates), but editorial decisions remain entirely independent of commercial considerations.
The PortugalGolfe.pt Team
The site is published by Magic Skills Portugal in Lisbon. The editorial team includes Portuguese golfers with regional knowledge across the country, including amateurs and committed weekend players who personally visit and play the courses we review.
When we publish a personal review of a course we visited, that review is signed by the team member who played it. When we publish a factual directory page for a course we haven’t yet visited, we make that clear — the page is marked as “compiled by the editorial team from official sources” rather than presented as a personal review.
This honesty matters more than coverage. We’d rather have 8 honest reviews and 77 factual directory pages than 85 fake reviews.
Our Course Review Methodology
When we personally visit a course, our reviews capture:
- Course Details: architect, year, par, holes, location
- Conditioning: greens, fairways, bunkers, rough — with specific descriptors (not generic “well-maintained”)
- Signature elements: standout holes, memorable shots, scenery
- The Experience: arrival, pro shop, staff, clubhouse, halfway house, pace of play
- Practical info: green fee paid (we say what we actually paid), season, what was included
- Honest caveats: what disappointed, what’s overrated, what’s worth knowing
- Verdict: would we return, value rating, who the course suits
For courses we haven’t yet visited, we publish factual directory pages with public data (FPG/Federação Portuguesa de Golfe records, course websites, architect data) and clearly mark the page as awaiting a personal visit.
For UK and Irish Visitors Specifically
We write extensively for visiting golfers from the UK and Ireland — by far the largest international visitor cohort to Portuguese golf. Our visitor-focused content covers:
- Etiquette and practicalities for British golfers in Portuguese clubs
- Algarve, Lisbon, Northern Portugal, Silver Coast and Madeira region guides
- Best months to visit by region
- Flying with golf clubs — UK airline policies and travel bag guidance
- Sample itineraries for 4, 5 and 7-day trips
What We Don’t Cover
We focus on what we can do well:
- We don’t run a tour-operator business or sell golf packages directly
- We don’t cover golf betting markets in our English content (the UK gambling market has dedicated specialist sites)
- We don’t publish AI-generated fake reviews — when content is template-based factual data, we mark it as such
