Vale do Lobo Ocean Course Review
The Vale do Lobo Ocean Course is the older of the two Vale do Lobo layouts (sister to the more famous Royal Course). It offers a different character — more open, more coastal in feel, with several holes running close to the Atlantic.
Course at a Glance
- Holes: 18, par 72
- Style: Resort coastal
- Location: Almancil, central Algarve
- Distance from Faro Airport: 25 minutes
What Makes the Ocean Course Special
The course is arguably more scenic than the Royal on a hole-by-hole basis, with broader views over the resort and ocean. The layout is somewhat more forgiving than the Royal — slightly wider fairways and less penalising rough — making it a popular choice for groups with mixed handicaps.
Vale do Lobo as a resort is one of the Algarve’s most established destinations, with full-service accommodation, restaurants and beach. Many British golf groups combine Ocean + Royal in a single stay (one each day).
For the Visiting Golfer
The Ocean Course works best as:
- The complement round to the Royal Course at Vale do Lobo
- A scenic-but-playable round for mid-handicap golfers
- Part of a 4-5 round central Algarve itinerary
Practical notes: book 2-3 weeks ahead. Pair with the Royal Course in a 2-day Vale do Lobo stay.
